I think I have read armor crafting somewhere along TW's comments but I can not recall where. Current smithing mechanism is not set in stone, they could make armor smithing a single-piece thing and it would work just fine. Personally I would prefer more stability at this point, instead of more experimentations.
Just keep grinding smithing to Max and then you'll have to smith several of the weapon you want until it gives the Legendary stat spread you are satisfied with. Or just ignore it because it doesn't matter that much. I don't remember the values, but I think "fine" weapons give an extra 2 total stats or something, so you'll see like +2, or +1 +1
There are several mods that cause some relative fixes on the player economy. Smithing exploit is banalé and wrecks the game experience altogether. I highly suggest against it. I'm at 1011th hour and if I could disable smithing altogether, just because of this exploit bullsh*t, I would.
Grizzly Sep 7, 2022 @ 8:57pm. might be that you "unlocked" starting parts (yes that happens) but thats a one time thing per playthrough, just move on and smith/melt more stuff. you will only learn what kind of weapon you are smithing/smelting if i remember right (random parts of that weapon kind) and first all parts of tier 1, then 2, then 3
Better to SMELT some tier 2-3 weapons u loot. Then u get a bit more skill.. bit more smelting. Make BETTER swing swords (2 handed to more dps.. and thus more denar value).. smelt. etc. Eventually u get high skill. and a fair bit of unlocks. Hitting 300 in smithing is one of, if not the easiest skill to level. But you need to make/smelt HIGH
